As the world economy is trying to rebound, improved international trade and investment relations have never been more vital. EU-Indonesia trade was at an all time high of 20bn EUR, before the crisis hit. EU is one of Indonesia’s main trading partners today, but with Indonesia entering an increasing amount of Free Trade Agreements with other countries and groupings, EU’s standing could potentially falter.
With the EU-ASEAN FTA put on halt there is a need for EU business to look to other options in order to compete on an even foot with China, Japan, ASEAN 6 (5), ANZ etc.
The aim of EuroCham’s international trade working group is to analyse and share information on the current situation, including the changing trade patterns and challenges/opportunities that free trade agreements bring for Indonesia/ASEAN. We will for example discuss EU invested sectors that are potentially hit by the FTAs, but also the possibilities for an EU company to benefit from the ASEAN 6/ASEAN-China FTA by making it easier and cheaper to move components from one ASEAN country to another, or from China to ASEAN in a regional assembly line, to bid for contracts as an “ASEAN based” company, and related issues.
The first meeting will take place on 29 January 08:00-10:00. For more information and to register please email
