According to the figures released on February 26th annual inflation in the Euro area came up to 1 percent in January 2010 and 1.7 percent for whole EU area. In December 2009 inflation was recorded at 0.9 percent in the eurozone and 1.5 percent in the EU and at 1.1 percent and at 1.8 percent respectively a year earlier. As for the member states, annual inflation in January 2010 rose in seventeen states, remained stable in one and fell in nine compared with December 2009. The lowest 12-month average up to January 2010 was recorded in Ireland at -2 percent and the highest in Romania at 5.4 percent. Sweden had a 12-month average of 2 percent and an annual inflation of 2.7 percent in January 2010. The main components with the highest annual rates in January 2010 were transport at 4.9 percent, alcohol & tobacco at 4.6 percent while food and communications had the lowest annual rates at -1.2 percent and -0.9 percent respectively.
